In the Commercial/Industrial sector, companies’ needs go beyond the basic physical security system. Due to the variety and complexity of most commercial/industrial companies, the security system can go from simple to very complex.
Most of these companies combine Access Control, Video surveillance, and Intrusion systems to have a complete solution for protecting their people and their assets. Fire protection is also a required part of the security and safety system found in Commercial/Industrial companies. There is a greater need for an evacuation plan in case of accidents, fire, spills, etc.

A fundamental aspect of wireless technology is the frequency used for transmission. For security applications you want to focus on 2.4GHz, 4.9GHz and 5.1-5.8GHz, which are all license-free (except 4.9GHz, which is dedicated to public safety applications). Given the widespread deployment of license-free systems in urban areas, the 5.1-5.8GHz band is the one that is most commonly used because it has the least amount of interference.
It is important to keep in mind that, regardless of the manufacturer’s statement, any wireless system operating on these frequencies requires clear line of sight. …

1. Clean those gutters
Once the leaves fall, remove them and other debris from your home’s gutters — by hand, by scraper or spatula, and finally by a good hose rinse — so that winter’s rain and melting snow can drain. Clogged drains can form ice dams, in which water backs up, freezes and causes water to seep into the house, the Insurance Information Institute says.
As you’re hosing out your gutters, look for leaks and misaligned pipes. Also, make sure the downspouts are carrying water away from the house’s foundation, …

NFPA announces second lowest level of U.S. smoking-material fire deaths in nearly 30 years
Lower fire death rates signal positive impact of national fire-safe cigarette initiative
October 21, 2010 – A new report released today by the nonprofit National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) shows that the number of smoking-material related fire deaths in the U.S. dropped below 700 in 2008, representing the second lowest level since 1980. While several factors can be credited for the latest decline, NFPA points to new fire-safe cigarette legislation as an important component of the decrease.

Alarm Monitoring for Commercial and Industrial Firms
Alarm system monitoring reports a security or fire alarm to a remotely located listed central station.
In most buildings the greatest risk of loss occurs when the facility is unoccupied. If there is a fire alarm, or a security alarm, and there is nobody on scene to respond to the problem, big problems can result. The fire spreads and does irretrievable damage; intruders steal thousands of dollars worth of property, or commit vandalism in the process. This is where alarm monitoring provides the extra measure …
